Birthday present to myself. Already got BFT, YFT, and plenty of yellowtail this year. Wanted to catch a dorado or a skipjack (never caught either before, but I want to add them to the list). Didn't get either but the boat did, so that's still cool.
The day started off really slow. Rough seas, sea sick passengers (but not this guy 8)) and a cloudy sky. Fished US waters northwest of SD, hitting paddies and trolling around forever. Eventually (forget the time, probably around 2), hit a really good piece of kelp and it went WFO. I've seen it better before but considering the first 3/4 of the day was extremely slow, the fishing was excellent 8).
Most fish were caught on live bait (including my biggest of the day). I also got one on the popper and had a few others boil on it....absolutely amazing. Two other guys were throwing poppers and irons and did a great job on the fish. I had my GoPro with me (yea, I was that guy...but I don't care :)). Got some cool footage on it that I will upload soon.
All in all, a great day on the water. Tons of tangles but hey, that's part of fishing on the sport boats.
Here's a picture and the first of two videos that I will load.
First video: Raw footage of blood, tangles, and a few gaff shots:

That's all it takes, finding the right paddy. Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't. Congrats on the popper fish, and Happy Birthday.
Thanks a lot sasquatch.
The other video link was messed up. Here is the new one:

Awesome video Boss! Pretty cool perspective while fishing the popper. 8)
That was an awesome second video. That looked like some real fire-drill action there!
Muy bueno!
This was one of those seasons where you'd get a chance to scratch multiple species off the list but you had to be timely.
BFT were hot in heavy early but are gone. YFT are full throttle with those in the right place at the right time finding the dodos on the chew.
Interesting that the yellowtail are MIA...at least the bigger ones anyway.
Thanks Tom!

And you are very right. All the yellows we encountered were rats. Heard of some 30# models hanging around the local kelp lately though. Interesting....
