: Rock Hopping (6/19)
: Latimeria June 20, 2016, 06:54:26 p
I've wanted to try some rock hopping for a while now and Chris getting a few yellows just pushed me to give it a quick shot.  I haven't fished the rocks out here too often, so I drove to a few different beaches looking for some fishable areas for the tide on hand.
Most beaches were quite weedy, but I found some less weedy rocks to fish.

It was a great way to start the early morning Father's Day heat that was starting to set in even at 6 am.

I started with the Tady 45 and A9.  I had something follow it in, but think it was a seal.  Never got a good sight on it, so I'm not sure.

I switched up to a big Optimum swim bait and hooked a 12" bass who flopped off the hook trying to swing it up. (I kept a swivel on for quick change outs of lures and for the spinning reel as it reduced line twist immensely!

My arms started to get tired and my injured shoulder was starting to throb, so I called it quits.

I hope all the dads out there had a great Father's Day!

Never done that but I  assume you pack ultra light to be 100% mobile?

That is funny. Even packed "ultra light" for Tom is at least 15# of gear.

I'm the same way, I always over pack. Hate being ill prepared for all possibilities.

I said a seal for Steve's case, but I got boiled on big time.  I just never got an eye on it, so can only go by the water disturbance around the lure.  I also got a 12" bass that flopped off on the wave roll.  Oh well, I did pack light and only kept 2 lures in my pocket besides the one on the rod.  It was kind of nice not lugging around 20 pounds of gear with me.  lol

That looks about right.  tired is an understatement throwing that kind of gear.  Its not only the casting but the long wind in.  I'm sure it was a fish I don't think the seals boil on roll on baits follow sometimes.  Nice job tom.
