Steve and I headed out at O' dark thirty on the Fourth of July to beat the crowds. I got to the beach at 4:15 and Steve was there soon after.
We fished pretty hard when Steve looked to have a nice Leo on the line. He grabbed the rod, but never got the hook really set into the fish's mouth. About 2 hours later, I had a screamer! It was most likely a bat ray from the way it was running, but I too couldn't get the hook set properly in it's mouth. Damn it!
Finally Steve gets a decent hit, but there was not much fight to it. Funny how a really nice bass like this doesn't have much muscle when fighting our 40# long rods. :D
Steve and the nice calico to salvage our trip.

The idiot beacons were strong today and we called it quits after having the typical showing of swimmers on our lines.
Happy Fourth everyone.
We each had a decent opportunity, but they just didn't stick. It was fun trying the exotic baits, even if they were non productive. Still need more time to give them a fair shot.
That's a beauty Steve, congrats!
Just saw it. I made post of the week! Oh Yeah.
