A friend asked me if I wanted to join him on a boat yesterday, so of course I said yes. We headed out of the bay towards the Coronado Islands and stopped when we saw some bird activity. The birds promptly left, but we set up a drift and fly lined sardines in case the fish were still around. A couple of the sardines got shredded, probably from barracuda. Finally we had one solid take, and it was on my rod, so I set the hook and reeled in this guy. 23 inches and released.

I'm super stoked that I finally got to see one of these in person, but I'm a little bummed I didn't get my first one on my own from my kayak or from shore. I feel dumb for complaining though, so I'll stop. I think now I've caught all the California croaker species, so that's cool! :)
That's awesome! Congrats Been!
Gorgeous colors on that one Ben, once again...............congrats

I think there's still a few around Ben and I hear that July and August are the best times to be in that area also....
LOL! July and August on the Salton Sea sounds lovely. ;D
Tilapia were the only fish sampled last year, and even their numbers are dropping.
