Just a thought, I love using reel clamps, but they always feel bulky to me. If you're machining your own, couldn't you change the profile a bit to make it more streamlined?
I use SolidWorks, maybe I can send you some files of what I'm thinking?

I thought about it.. The reason I went the thickness was just so I could grab a little more in the vice.. I just wanted to bang it out while the machine is open.. We use Pro E here which is super over freaken complicated.. And I could have it translated but I'm not that good with the techno weannie stuff yet.. It would be easier for me if you just send me a hand sketch and I module it up from that..
I think if I send you the part as an .iges file, you should be able to open it in ProE.
