: No Stripes But New Species 6/19

Spray painted a couple spooks black, threw a layer of clear coat on, went out and trialed em for stripers. I knew it was goofy and by the end of the trip it was already worn a bit.

Didn't take long to get a bite. It was directly in the sun's reflection but I felt it. Seemed like a small schoolie. A bit confused by the bite but what else would hit it locally? Got excited. Kept going. Then I saw a little stick popping up behind the bait. My brain was so fixated on stripers that I could not comprehend. Happened on 3 consecutive casts before I hooked it, and some silvery thing started greyhounding. Turned it easily and raced it in. Ooooooooooohhhhhh. Giant Needlefish. 131st species!

Saw the needles and some wakes behind the spook into the evening but no other bites. Nice to get a needlefish, although I already recognize it's in the way of stripers and corvina on the spook, might have just inherited another one of Tom's curses.

My macbook is in the shop, don't know how to get a pic from iphone to forum properly.

Man, you're gripping that thing like Koga grips his Vienna sausage! lol

Congrats!  I know what you mean when you are so focused on a target, that anything else sometime boggles the head.  Congrats and at least it was a good one!
