What an awesome session! You guys always kill it in either the bay or the surf. That's a sick BSB

Hell yeah!!! I'm gonna be on that list real soon >:(

Way to go!! You guys have a hell of a spot! Been focusing on two spots that are proven to be sharky, Binh and I are pretty close...

You'll get one forsure! As you know the constant effort will be rewarding eventually!

Freaking awesome guys, you sure put in the work. Just a special feeling after finally landing the target huh? Congrats and now you can target the big Ole 7gills 8)

Yeah It feels great knowing the hard work payed off! Like you said hopefully a 7 is next. I wouldn't mind a big Leo either haha.

Such an awesome night! A much different fight then the bat rays. I couldn't believe how strong she was when I grabbed the tail.

Ouch!  I hate to say it, but that's a painful lesson learned.  I use something like an Albright, not really sure of its name, but it holds up pretty good.  If it doesn't cinch down right, you need to cut it off and retie.  It's a very unforgiving knot if it doesn't all slide down and tighten properly.

That sounds like a Soupie for sure you had on!  Right there is telling you are in the right spot for future trips.
It's only a matter of time now before you guys beach one!

Awesome good to know, we've been thinking about other spots like Torrey pines but for now we are gonna try this spot three or four more times

Last minute bites are always exciting! nice sevengill!

Yeah super frustrating. I reeled in thinking I would get most of my line back and what I got at the end was some spiral white braid from the knot. Of coarse the one time I don't spool my own or do my own knots I get screwed. At least I learned.

Wow that looks nice. Good upgrade.

I also fish a similar set up. About 250-300 yards of 65lb braid back. 100 yards or so of 40lb mono. Then a 12ft top shot of 80lb for a shock/abrasion section. Some others here go straight braid (100lb+) to the wire.

A lot of rod options out there ... shop around. Picked up a Penn Battalion for @$130 and really like it a lot. It's gold and black too  ;D ;D
Thanks man I appreciate it. That is funny you bring up the battalion. I was searching around on tackle direct for some 12 footers and I was thinking that's the one I want to go with. Great specs and cool colors like you said

Nice man, as an example, lately I've bin running 50#braid backing, with 120 yards or so of 40# big game...as for the rod, research a nice setup for tossing 8 and bait...more than not you'll end up having to toss at least 6oz, plus however many of bait...I use the 12' extra heavy emcast, with the reel seat cut off, xwrapped, and my reel mounted like a jig stick...couldn't be happier

Thanks ray. I really appreciate the info on the rod. I'm gonna look into a rod that can throw around 10oz  because I run 6oz sputs and roughly 4oz bait

Got myself a penn fathom 30 for the surf. Upgrading from a penn 8000 spinner to a nice conventional. I'm wondering what line I should put on it. Also, do any of you have any suggestions for a nice rod to pair with it?  that would be helpful too. Thanks in advance.

That smoothhound definitely looks like it got attacked by something. Interesting marks on it.
