Late post: Saturday Night 9-15 Skunk

Sorry for the late post. The whole family(2 boys and wifey) tagged along. Fished 3.5 hours.
Fished off Crown Point Park near the bridge. There were SOO MANY people,  it was like summer. The serenity I was hoping for just didn't happen. Many people were interested in what we were trying to catch and were very talkative,  which makes the process of setting up 3 rods slow.

Used defrosted squid and small, whole mackerel, 5-7 inch. Tried combo, double squid and even a squid sandwich (squid, mackerel, squid). I figured go big or go home. We had a few occurrences that made the bell ding and the glow stick briefly dance but nothing actually stuck. A lot of bait picking and stealing. The best chance had the squid taken and the nothing but a mackerel head left, like it was taken by a sea lion. Bummer.

After 5 sessions at that spot, we have only got one small bat, but it was my eldest son's first ever. It is time to find a new spot. I wish we got out more. Time at the water is valuable time. 

Any suggestions in the back bay?  Maybe the front bay? 

Does anyone have any thoughts of the water being too warm for the bats and Leo's in the bay?

I was down there also closer to the bridge. Way too many people. A few weeks back I caught my first bat over by the 5 south of De Anza cove.

I hear you on the precious water time. I think the really warm water has goofed the fishing up.

Hopefully after this big Bay Fest weekend, things start to slow down as far as people are concerned.

The back bay always holds the warmest water in the bay, so I would maybe try and hit more the front part right now.  The Bahia Beach, Mariner's Basin or even Santa Clara Point are some other good options.  The water is usually in the high 60's this time of year, but we are in the high 70's after that big push of warm water after the tropical depression went by. 

Well, time on the water is experience and knowledge.  Glad you got out, but we will all be more glad when the kooks get off the beach and we get to fish in peace again!

Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions.  I may try next weekend.

Do the morned boats in Mariners cause any issues?  That is a deeper bay if the depth charts are still accurate. There might be an actual thermocline break there.
Does the current by Bahia run decently or are they subtle? I fished there once and it was our first trip for sharay in the bay and it was an epic failure. But I know that area can produce.

Moorings and buoys up the challenge.The anchor lines will chafe you right off.

On a good tide the current past Bahia can be howling.
