Need a license to take the kids fishing?

Hey guys,
I couldn't find anything really clear on this through DFW.
Do I need a fishing license to take my kids fishing?
They are getting pretty good, but still need a little help and I don't want to get busted by some warden who thinks I'm just giving my pole to my kid since I don't have a license.
Any experience with this?
Thanks!

If they are under 16 no license needed but still need to follow all other rules and regs...Best 16 year old birthday present ever would be the "lifetime license" they offer, never have to by a CA license again. Wish I would have done it when I was in my teens...do the math, talk about a good return on your money..

Looking forward to doin the fights with ya Chad

Oh, sorry, read to quickly. Your asking if you need a license if they're the only one's fishing...Interesting question, I'm not sure of the legal answer...But you got about a month and a half till SNBF to get yourself one of those them thar license things...

Anyone 16 and over needs a license unless you're fishing from a public pier.

I'm sorry, I should have explained more.
I am aware of the age laws.  My concern is not them having a license.  My kids are 7 and under.  My concern is that if I don't have a license and I take them fishing, will the warden believe that they are fishing and not me. Or will he think I was fishing and just gave them my pole when I saw him?
My 7 and 5 year olds can pretty much do it themselves but need a little help occasionally.  How much can I help without having a license myself?

If you grab the rod to for any reason, you could technically be "fishing" at that time. I guess it really depends on DFW. You're taking a risk.

A public pier is definitely your best bet!
