A Few Hours in Hawaii

Flew to Hawaii for my Dad's retirement party this past weekend. He finally called it quits at 80. It was a quick 3 day trip and each day was filled with family fun.

Did manage to squeeze a few hours of play time at a spot near our house which is usually devoid of other humans, with the exception of the occasional golfer driving by.

Tides were near peak high, and so was the sun, which made fishing a bit more difficult than normal. This spot usually produces dozens of reef variety, though typically not bigger than a pound or two.

Here's a few shots of where I set up on the rocks.

First cast and had a decent little drag puller Papio (baby bluefin Trevally). Been a while since I've caught one at this spot, so was pretty happy.

Then came the next 2 hours of nothing. CRAP - first cast curse and it was pretty much slack tide by now.
Moved around to several spots on the reef for nothing, then finally wandered back to where I started.

Few casts later snag an even smaller model Papio, but hey ... it's a fish.

Time to pack up and walk back to the house. That was all I had time for on this trip, but it was nice doing the solo thing for a bit.

Heading back for Thanksgiving with the kids, so may need to gear up for more time out.

Aloha!

Aloha Tim!
Cool fish!  Can't think of much better than sitting by the sea in HI with a fishing pole  :D

Lol.

Good for him for sticking it out for so long, it's not easy.

I'd throw in the towel right now if I could.
