Hit the surf for impromptu sesh. So spur of the moment, my bait was still frozen when I got to the beach.

Had 5-7" fresh macks and some chunked older macks. Brought lots of bait as I intended to stay late. Tossed out whole macks on the long rod and mack slices on the bait rod I brought to maximize my time on the sand. Regretted that decision immediately. 1st bait gets absolutely rocked!! Typical shark bite almost knocking rod out the holder. I missed the bite as I was a few feet away reeling in a YFC.

Here's what I was left with.

Getting greedy with 2 rods out at same time. Toss out 2nd whole mack, place rod in holder and rebait the light rod. Cast it out and the long rod screams!! Run back to rod and place light rod in holder and go to set hook on the long rod, I feel legit grinner head shakes then nothing. Phuck!! Bait was dropped!! Only a small section of the tail that was tie wrapped to my line was left. I'm in the right place!!  ;D  After all, this is where Binh got his 99".

This section of the beach goes silent after that. I talk to a couple of free divers who just got out of the water looking for bugs. They skunked out, but they did have some intel for me about a really fishy area further down the beach with reef nearby that was loaded big YFC and calicos. I make the move. Got no more love in the long rod, but I did have a blast with the mini grinners in the light rod. 6lb test held up well.

The smoothie was just a few inches smaller than the leo. Also scored another YFC and a round ray. Decided to call it at 1:30am. As I was walking, I decided to try my original spot one last time with my last while mack. The long rod finally got one... a very preggo -1

Did see several of these walking the beach. Got me hungry.

Also, here's a pic of the the size 6 Eagle Claw bronze bait holder hook (pre rigged) after the leo abused it.

Lol!! Totally looks like a circle hook! I left it on and caught the smoothie right after. Pretty tough hooks for $.89!!

Well damn Mike!  I was going to head up the 5 a little, but decided to try closer to me. Just wanted to feel the beach out, but super slow. You had a much better night than me. Well done boss!
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Pretty good night I'd say. We're catching fish tacos in the OC, but nothing big >:(
Anybody have an emergency beer?
