Baitfeeding spinners on the cheap

I run these on the critter rod and for catfish. Damn dependable reels so far. I got that monster 7 gill last year on the '80 size of this. $56 this week for the big one.

There is also one at the bottom on Mission bay.

Good deal on spinner that can handle a legit grinner. I do prefer a conventional though.

Looks like a great deal based on the price and reviews.
I can see it handling a big 7gill, not sure how it would fare against a big bat. Seems like it has kind low line capacity for something that can make big runs. Any idea how much drag it has?

Smallest is 14 lb larger ones are 22 lbs.

My 80 is filled with 80 lb braid and a mono top shot about 20 feet.

Nice. How much braid does it hold?

420/50, 350/65, 280/80.

I think those are optimistic but it took most of a 300 yard spool. I'd guess 250.

I love these as critter rod reels so I can dial the tension right for the surge yet still "freespool". Sort of how we all tweak the drag on our conventionals rather than clicker alone.

Works the same when catfishing the IV in the canals to adjust for current. The cats out there can be a bit clicker shy.

I was thinking it looked familiar, then I remembered why.  It looks like it's a rebadged Okuma Avenger ABF. 
I've been fishing the Avenger 65 for a year of so now and it's been great.  Caught all three of my 7's on it, but have been spooled by a couple big bats that I couldn't stop.
Been a great reel.  And the Cabelas price is even better.

You are right on the money chad. They are manufactured by okuma and take the same parts from okuma if you need to replace anything. But they are a pretty good deal right now, plus they look much better than the stock okumas. IMO, anything over 65lb braid is over kill for most surf critters we tangle with. 80 vs 65 braid doesn't give you anything but decreased capacity. It's not really any more resistant to rock damage if you get wrapped. Before I switched to conventional, I caught plenty of bats on the 65 size that I sold chad.
