Headed down to join some old friends at the SCSF fishoff. Thought maybe I could make a small contribution to the point totals.

Arrived at the beach just before dawn and set up. Soaked a few baits, noting a strong current and mixed up waves. Some were pretty big. Salad was present, but not a problem. Mostly sea monster size kelp that stuck close to shore out of my way.

The event officially started at 7, but I figured I might as well get some baits out while I waited for people to show up.

About 615 I get a small bite. Could have been a wave, but it was worth checking. Turns out it was a shark as the line came tight and I felt it do its thing.

I thought to myself, OK, leopards are in the area, but it didn't fight like a leopard. I decided it must be a soupie, then it jumped completely out of the water. Vertically, head up, tail down and totally out of the water. Amazing to see more than just a splash in the darkness.

Usual dogged fight, one other small jump, and I work it up on the beach.

Couple of the SC guys were there to lend a hand.

Took one picture, for the record, that when I look at it makes the shark look about 14" long. It wasn't.

Female, 68", mackerel, incoming, 2-4, waning crescent.

Never got another bite. Total contribution to Team SD, 0 points. Mission Failed.

I did see some good friends, and got a few nice raffle prizes, including and coupon for a reel service from CJ's. Thanks, Chad, I'll be in touch.

Right on Steve, how come no points for SD?  It may just be me, but I really like shark fishing during the day.

No points because I landed it before the starting bell. I was going for leopards as they would be worth 10 points for legals. The soupie would have only been one under the rules.

I would fish more during the day if crowds permitted.

I thought you had a 22" smoothie after seeing that picture.  I had trouble believing it was a nice soupie until I saw Steve Y's pics, LOL

Nicely done!  *clink
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

I looked at the pic after the release and thought, "Nobody is going to believe this."

Especially you and Mike.

Tom won't let you catch up, you won't let me catch up. F points, its all about the leader board! You're right, that soup looks tiny, more spoof fin than soupfin.
