Binh and Im decided to forgo our normal Thursday night sesh. I have sick kids, so I would be a GTD, but I put some bait out to thaw just in case. 10pm hits and all the kids are sleeping in their own beds, I guess I'm going fishing!!

First bait soaking by 10:30pm. With the high peaking at 10:58pm, I'm not expecting much, BUT most of my recent grinners have come via the outgoing. At least the critters are biting. Baits are coming back chewed up and hollowed out. The grunion start to show. Hopefully they draw something in.

Right around midnight, the grunion are making a serious showing, so I run over to a dark area of the beach to get some Nat Geo style pics and I hear my clicker screaming in the distance and see my rod is doubled over. Sprint over and immediately determine I'm on a bat >:( Well, it's better than a skunk. This thing was really running. I for sure thought it would be over 50". Finally beached, I tape it out to just 43". Bat must've used every downhill current and big wave out there during our tussle.

I stayed out until 12:30am and called it after my last bait went untouched for almost 30mins. Did see some sweet sandcrab beds and perfect sized crabs.
