Plan was to shoot straight out in 150-200 feet of water and start heading north.  The bigger bonito have been in those depths and the fish that were caught in Point Loma were now showing up off LJ.

Not a single sign of life let alone big bonito.  As we passed the MLPA line and got into the mine field of lobster buoys, I slowed the boat down to make a few casts.  As I did, the motor sputtered and stalled as it beeped 5x.  The motor started back up, but wanted to stall from idle to 3000 RPM.  Motor wasn't hot, so not sure what is going on as this is a new one.

Still, we decided to fish and slowly make our way back so we would be closer to the inlet rather then having to call Vessel Assist from LJ.

We caught and lost some nice shark bait sized bonito while we drifted.

Picked up an array of bottom critters that are going to make for some tasty tacos.

Weird red... looks sort of like a Starry and a Rosy mixed into one.

Decent amount of assorted sized Browns.

Len's nemesis, the White Sea Roach.  I was plagued with them.

We also caught a bunch of calico bass from 13-14 inches, but there had to be a JP winner for the day, so I got the payout.

Some of the catches we had today.  It was quite the variety!

Headed in and let Steve know for a crash landing at the dock if the motor dies on me... and it did.  Steve was ready and hull tragedy was avoided.
That's about it.  At work now, but I will be taking the boat in sometime soon to get the motor looked at.
Thanks for reading.
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Must just be a darkly colored starry?

Kind of weird, I haven't caught a brown or johnny bass in the past two years.

Good haul. Glad you made it back safe. Hope the motor is back and running 100% soon.

Well, except for the whole motor not working part of it, I had a good time. Caught a few fish, enjoyed a couple beers.

Hope the motor is a quick fix.

Bummer about your motor Tom, hopefully it will be a easy (cheap) fix

Hope it's just a simple fix like a fuel filter or bad gas.
