I played hooky and took the Curmudgeon out looking to see if I could find more marlin or possibly find a yellowfin that's been prowling the locals shelves the last few days.

Weather report was off on this day.  It didn't look too bad, but the short period swell made it less than comfortable for a good part of the morning.  Plan was to be back in my driveway and on the computer at 2:00 for my meeting, so it didn't give me a whole lot of time.

75 degree BLUE water and I had high hopes.  Passed and fished a few paddies, but only bait and Mola on it like on Sunday.

Metered bait balls, saw mammals all over and plenty of birds milling about while I trolled and trolled and trolled.

I started trolling for home when out of the blue I hear a screamer!  f@ck yeah and on my close rod with the lipless hard bait!  Tuna hit it 15 feet behind the boat!

Took my time, but it was green getting caught so close.  I got eyes on a 25# class yellowfin and beautifully lit up!  Blind strike is a blind strike, and I started to slide it to the gaff.  A few feet away and it shook and sounded.... without the lure in his face....  MFer....

Brand new lure got the battle scars, but nothing to show for it.

I decided to troll the area a bit more and then saw a marlin coming in hot to my spread!  I was waiting for the scream as I didn't have any live bait to drop back to it and nothing.  I'm really getting tired of the 2024 offshore season so far.  Apparently I used up my luck at the beginning of the year on big trout....

I had to get home for my meeting so reeled up and took off.  Ugh, another heart wrenching morning, but a lot better than sitting at my desk at work, that's for sure!

Thanks for reading!  I'd say I'll get 'em next time, but I already went and went 0/3....  story to come soon.
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

At least you're seeing some life, bummer on the farm job. Love those High Speed Vibes. Got my bft last year with it and I've been meaning to get one in blue like that.

Would have gone once or maybe even twice this weekend but the car juggling kinda screwed me over. Good for long term but this was also maybe the tastiest looking pelagics weekend I've seen all year.
