I went inexpensive and planned on installing a new helm that I bought a few months ago and is desperately needed.  Since I busted my shoulder, that won't work so I brought the boat into the shop.

Well, the helm won't fit unless I pay to have a new mount custom made... so I had to buy one that would fit.  Thankfully, I bought the other helm so long ago, that I can't return it.  Oh joys!

Ouch  :(  Seems like it's always something ! It used to be a hundred bucks when things go wrong, now it's a thousand  :o

A good Leaning Post/ seat will make things easier too but I'm sure they ain't cheap either ::)

Good luck, hope you get back on the water soon !

OMG ... I'm going to lose my mind. Said everything stopped and worked great when I was paying and I got out of there to try and miss as much traffic as I could.

Got home excited to turn the wheel and feel it lock in place.

...

...still waiting

... didn't feel any difference.

Couldn't find any leaks on the line or steering at the motor. Called up before they left for the weekend and they said it was working before I left.

Now I have to take it back on Monday.

I'd say just my luck because it's just my luck.

Just venting.

Bringing the boat back in now.  Fingers crossed they find and FIX the problem this time.

I'm getting tired of this.  I'm going to try and fix it myself today but should probably just bring it into the shop.  I'm just hemorrhaging money, and my wallet apparently has an anti-coagulant in it.

The problem wasn't the helm, but I had to pay to get it installed anyway.  The problem is the steering cylinder by the motor.  They told me they could replace it for $800 out the door.  I found an aftermarket part that for the most part is identical for $150 so I went that route.

I'll update the progress report when I could.

Time will tell.

I thought I could install the new hydraulic steering RAM myself since it all looked identical.  I started loosening the nuts when my arm got a shocking pain on the simplest of turns.

WTH, I brought it into the shop hoping I wouldn't have to leave the boat for the weekend and even packed a Marlin Loin and smoked marlin as a hopeful bribe to get the work done immediately.  I figure I would pay for the 1 hour of labor which was good enough if I could have the boat back this weekend.

Two guys came out and immediately started working on it.  I could tell they didn't want to deal with this, so I said "Do you guys have a fridge in the shop?  If so, do you want some smoked marlin and a big marlin loin?".
I guess they don't have too many people ever offer them anything as a big smile appeared on their faces followed by a "Hell Yeah".

It literally took 20 minutes and the steering was in perfect working order.  I gave them the marlin and was ready to say what do I owe them when they smiled and said have a good weekend and walked back into the shop...  Huh, I was not expecting that!

I got home to finish up some remote work as I have a bunch of projects to get to.  Soon as I closed my computer for the day, I was planning on getting the boat ready for some possible "electric Reel" fishing.  Then I saw a jumpy arrive next door and a 100 cars followed.  Well, maybe I'll just drink tonight and fish on Sunday since my  football team is a disaster.

I got up this morning to all the cars gone and was trying to motivate to get out there, but I wasn't packed, it was damn cold, and I have one mean hangover to contend with.  Looks like I'm back to my Sunday plan and time to rest this pounding head.  Definitely going to try do a Dry January to reset my body.  I'm an idiot when it comes to drinking sometimes.

Nice deal on the boat repair, you don't see that much anymore ! 8)

I's amazing how drinking can hinder things.......it's fun till it's not :(

Hope you get out and find the fish :)
