Like others, it has been a week or two since I had a chance to get out and fish. Intending to use up some older bait, I went on a solo mission to see if I could get on the Leo contest board. Still groggy from a night out with my wifa, I was halfway down the 78 when I realized I forgot my phone for pix. Glad I did go back to get it. Checked the first spot, not enough beach to fish from so I headed to my second spot, a steep and deep beach break. Not a lot of salad but the waves were bigger. I was still set up with "grinner gear" on my rod and did not retie, overkill if I get a Leo but that's OK by me. Set the spike and chucked out kitty mac chunks. I was working between the shore dump and inside sets. First chunk rots off after a of couple casts, five minutes after soaking the second chunk I get a serious pickup and strong run, batter up...

Finally a chance to practice my dentistry skills.

I was giving this fish everything I had but only had 30# mainline. It had some good long runs through out the battle. I did have to give line to let it run around a large floating paddie near shore that came into play during the 20/25 minute battle. A small group of people gathered to watch, adding to the pressure. Luckily I was able to boogieboard it in on top of the shore dump because of the steep beach...

I was too wiped out to flip it over so that's why the bottom measure. I asked one of the guys who was watching to take some pix...Tape shot was bad but askers cant be choosers ...It measured out at 55" (no BSin').
They're fairly symmetrical top to bottom right? Dragged it out a little and some big shore dump got it and it flipped itself over and cruised off. Thanks for reading and tight lines everyone.

Nice Hog! What a fatty!

That's a legit one there... And those surf bats just seem meaner.
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

sasquatch

That is a nice fish on 30. Or anything else for that matter.

lamnidae

It sounds like you battled the elements too. That can definitely get tiring. Beautiful Bat.

A 55" surf bat is going to take a little time to get in.  ;) Congrats on the solo landing.
