Gf and I loaded up the truck, picked up some fresh maks and headed to a 7gill spot in LA.

I was aware the surf was slightly up in near by areas but was hoping it would be a bit smaller in this spot.

We arrived early to walk the beach and collect sea glass.

Surf was 2-3 with some kelp. The tide wasnt ideal but I was aware of that prior to heading out.

The spot is great, big thick reef for a long ways and a nice clean patch of sand in the spot to set up. Tons of marine life and a kelp forest on the outside. I've fished here once before but only lasted 20 minutes due to a bird knocking my rod over and getting sand in my reel. This spot has produced 7s in the past by others but not on this board.

We walked for a bit and the surf picked up, now 2 to 4 ft.

Said no thanks.

Back up plan was to hit alamitos bay for bats but decided to pass on that as well.

Hope conditions improve for this coming week. The constant high surf is pissing me off.

I yak baits in 2-4ft. ... There's got to be a trough to place baits in, even with a swell. The surf isn't what keeps me from casting baits, it's usually a sideways current that does.

Seems like it must have been bigger surf for you to say no
Keep it tight

The conditions have been brutal Eric, this coming weekend is supposed to be insane.  Never thought I would retreat to the bay, but that's the plan for this week  :P

6-10 foot surf predicted at the bat cave next Saturday. Combat fishing! Who's with me?!

No whining about bouys allowed anymore.
