Fished after dark at the base of Mariners Point Park last night.  Originally we planned to walk down to the end of the point but I changed my mind and decided to stay by the car at the little parking lot on the map.

A small krocodile spoon caught a bunch of juvenile kelp bass and barred sand bass near the rocks.  It's killing me that Tom got all those spotted bay bass this morning, because that's the one out of the three I still need!  A big piece of squid on a circle hook caught this bat ray.

A smaller piece of squid on a smaller circle hook caught this round stingray.

And in other news, a guy from the Scripps institute has taken an interest in the largemouth blenny I caught in Carlsbad the other day.  He wants to come up next week and have me catch some more so they can preserve them for their records.  It's pretty cool getting to play citizen scientist!

Who needs KenT?!!   ;)

Ken helped me get a truckload of new species in Florida, so I won't bash him... yet.

Plus I have a couple hundred to go before I catch up to him, haha.  ::)

You would have caught all the he spotted bay bass you wanted today.
I might do it again tomorrow.

Nice catching, Ben and congrats on your Mexfish addition.
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Just noticed how you like to hold up the rays with your hands, I try to avoid all that slime as much as possible! Only thing I find slimier than rays is 'cudas. BLECH!!
