Sunday Paul braved absolutely snotty conditions to go find the fleet. Chloro maps have shown solid green all the way to the 43, and that's where they found THE ENTIRE fleet.
More than a dozen cattle boats and tons of PBs. Drift was speedy due to the high winds, and you needed 6 to 8 oz just to keep your bait down in the bite zone at about 150ft.
They saw tons of boats hooked up putting slobs over the side, and they quickly had some opportunities. Lost first several bites to gut hooked fish, but finally got one to stick.

1.5 hour fight, results a nice fish just shy of 100#. 2 hr ride back in - soaking wet.

Said it looked like a YFT when it came over, and the dock hand weighing the fish said YFT. But damn the pics look BFT and so did the meat. Calling it the YBFT .... ;D ;D ;D

(Not sure I would have sent me this one) ... Paul tugging his rod  :P :P

Thanks for looking.

Hope these slobs stick around. Geez I feel so Tom-like locked away onshore ... :P :P

God, you made me feel even worse now that I'm landlocked....

Yeah man, I got to be honest and it looks like a washed out Bluefin.  White anal fin and typical Bluefin spots that are kind of washed out by the tail, but pics don't do it justice and I can't believe I can't ID that thing.  Now that I look at it, all YFT have pectoral fins that reach the bigger second dorsal fin.  BFT pectoral fins do not... and this pic looks like it does not unless it is a bad angle, so I am sticking with BFT.

In any case, One hell of a fish!
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Wow....I just saw a bunch of huge yellowfin come in and have what I think are bft characteristics. Never caught triple digit YFT before so maybe I'm wrong. Tough pic to I'd from, so I just would like to know for sure. Wow....

Nice ... We get a different type of YFT here, and a lot of pictures have them (these larger ones) looking like BFT postmortem.

Chris

Almost looks like a long tail.

Idk how many types of yellowfin there are. I thought the pacific YFT were all the same

Dunno man. The pacific YFT off California and Mex look like this ...

Then again ... they might not have matured yet to get those long fins? The one's we caught in Hawaii looked like yours, but the only ones i've caught here have had short anal / dorsal fins (up to 60lbs for me anyway). Think Paul said his went 91

More pics in this post from another boat. About the same size ...

Chris

The sickles don't come out on every tuna. In Florida you can catch sickle fins all day in the gulf and not find one on the east coast. It's strange. I was looking at the pec fins and eyes

Ah ok, didn't know that. Thanks Chris. I think they look cool as sh!t with the big sickles showing ...
