I was invited to do an Island trip on a buddy's boat today, but I had to be back pretty damn early.  He couldn't guarantee it and I didn't want to screw the guys for my purposes, so I made a last minute call to skip the invite and take a 3-hour local tour hoping to find some yellows.
The yellows have been scarce locally the past few days, but I was only going on a hunch.

I left at first light....

And got out before the sun even broke the horizon.

Got a deep bite on the Yo-Yo and thankfully kept it on the line without a Sea-Lion coming around.

I saw a buddy which watched the entire fight/landing.  he was stoked to see it.

I then hooked a really big one.  The last one weighed in at 25# and this one was definitely bigger.  10 minutes into the fight and nothing... no reason except that it unbuttoned.... Crap.
I saw another boat hook up a few times and get one in, but they also lost another one which was a bigger model..

All of a suuden, one of the Tupperware navy started rowing over to me and I realized it was my buddy Len! (Skrilla)

Fishing was tough everywhere, but I held strong to the deep iron.  I tried a dead stick second rod to see if I could get a white...

It payed off with a 15# model! yellow

I ran into Len again and he caught a nice bonito and lost a nicer yellow.

I caught some rockfish on the Yo-Yo, but this was my only "Yellow-Tail" variety.

I saw some busting fish and expected it to be bonito, so I cast out the Salas 6X Jr to use as a surface iron and BAM!  NICE YELLOW ON!

I got it 8 feet from the boat and was going for the gaff shot when a sea-lion bum rushed it from below my boat and a tug of war ensued.  The fugger won and ripped a 12# model yellowtail off my jig and preceded to eat it in front of me.  Just then, 8 boats made a B-Line towards me and I realized it was time to go.  It was almost 11:00am and I was actually going home early.  I loved it because I got it done in 3 hours.

The Biology chick was kind enough to weigh and take a shot back at the ramp.

I got home in plenty of time and I actually took my time prepping the yellows.

Prehistoric Soul baby!

Until next tide.   8)
