Every year on Sept 1st, I go dove hunting with my brother and Dad but this year due to some injuries my brother and Dad incurred I will not be hunting this year. I already got the week off so I am thinking about fishing some places I normally don't. Somewhere in San Diego is definitely on the list to go. I also want to try up north. Maybe by Santa Barbara. I would of course be targeting the toothy critters but am open for really anything. I plan on continuing my quest for a thresher with droned live bait. Any structure someone can point me to that is up to 600-700 yards of shore is do-able. The plan is to find some inexpensive hotel somewhat near by so I can maximize my fishing time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, as Threshers go, I would say Oceanside as they have quite a few big sharks caught off the pier up there and it's know to have makos, GW's, Threshers etc.  The Imperial Beach Pier area is also a known hotspot for some larger sharks like Threshers, but not quite the area to be hanging out at night if you planned on staying late.

Squatch is more familiar with Oceanside as I have only fished there once before if that.  At least I know I have a few beaches that would work for droning baits out.  The biggest issue is all of the surfers and SUP'ers during the day.  With a 700 yard range though, I'm sure we could get you to some spots that hold the species you are looking for!
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Ditto to what Tom said. Droning out a bait during the day is nearly impossible down here. Way too many surfers and beach goers. Night time is the right time. Let me know when you're in town, would love to meet up and get some drone training from you!
