weekend plans, is 1/2 day sport boat worth it?

My friend Ryan is visiting from Florida this weekend.  He currently has around 225 species on his lifelist and wants to get as many new ones as he can out here.

Here's the plan I came up with:

--- Fri ---
Arrive SD airport late, fish Shelter Island Pier for an hour, head home to get some sleep.

--- Sat ---
Thinking about doing a 1/2 day sport boat, but not sure how I feel about the fish counts lately.  Would like to target rockfish instead of motoring around all day looking for yellowtail and ending up with less than one fish per angler.  Should I call around and ask what they think they'll be targeting, or is that something they essentially decide the morning of?

Ocean Beach Pier in the afternoon, switch to tidepools as the tide gets low.

Soup Kitchen or similar spot in the evening for sharks and critters.

--- Sun ---
Couple options:

Torrey Pines light tackle surf fishing.

Mission Point Park for wrasse and other little fish in the rocks.

Liberty Station Park to try out ghost shrimp pump and try for bonefish and whatever else is in there.

Del Mar lagoon for blennies, gobies, opaleye, turbot, etc.

Repeat of Soup Kitchen or similar spot.  Would love to get a big grinner on the sand.

--- Mon ---
Shelter Island for an hour in the morning before dropping off at the airport.

We're looking at the New Seaforth 1/2 day PM on Sun.  They've been posting somewhat decent rockfish numbers lately.  At the least we should get some bonito for sashimi and shark bait.

Still planning to surf fish for sharks both Sat and Sun nights.
