SCR West Side

So Andrew came out for work and wanted to get a afternoon of fishing in.  He was only out for 4 days, so there was little in the way of timing and conditions to fit in some surf fishing.  I thought about boat fishing, but it was supposed to be super windy with 3-4' wind waves, so the boat was out.

The tide was coming up to about 6', so that limited the beaches we could hit.  Chopped salad everywhere and RIPPING north current.



Our annual SCR get-to-gether.  Last year I fished VA beach out there.



I tried the long rod and it would get instantly loaded up with kelp.  I saw a different bump and caught my first of the day, a 2' shovelnose.  At this point we decided to just do some small rod fishing.  Every cast we got purple crap loaded up on the line, but we caught some fish inbetween the lumps and made it worth while.

Finally Andrew pulls a Sasquatch move and steps in front of me and casts out and instantly hooks up!  It looked like a monster spotfin at first...



100+ yards down the beach and he finally lands it on 6# test.



That was it.  We couldn't deal with the salad anymore, so packed it up after a cool talk and catching up.

Ugh, I hate seeing all that salad on the beach. At least you got some! Glad I didn't attempt a surf sesh this weekend.
