A swath of the Southern California coastline is now covered with oil after 3,000 barrels' worth gushed into the Pacific Ocean this weekend, officials said.

The spill -- equal to about 126,000 gallons of post-production crude -- is a "potential ecological disaster," Huntington Beach Mayor Kim Carr said Saturday.

The oil has spread between Huntington Beach and Newport Beach, officials said.

By Sunday morning, "We've started to find dead birds & fish washing up on the shore," Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley tweeted.

I'm hearing some old salts saying this is gonna f##k up Huntington ecology/fishing for decades possibly. Places like Izor's/Horseshoe reefs might have gotten wiped.

Just as I moved down, too! Big woof.

Good god, this is looking to be bad...  I'm pissed it took like 24 hours before someone checked it out or they sent the alert out.
I'm going to try and be hopeful they'll clean it up and not be a disaster, but it's not looking good.
You can't catch them from your computer chair.
