Met up with Dave this morning for his Once-a-year fishing trip.  He wanted a big yellow trout.

They stocked 4 lakes with 3500 pounds and had 1000 pounds of trophies.  Just maybe....

in line...

We stopped at Lake 4 and gave it a go.  I only had a few hours before I had to run home to get on a bunch of meetings.

Saw a few trout acting weird in the shallows and leaving big puffs of mud in the water.

Otherwise every person walking by said Lake 2 is the hot lake.  Hmmm... Lots of bird pics on 4...

Then I get a hit!  My strike indicator drops and I set the hook!  Fish on!
Lots of head shaking and it came right up.  Probably a 2# model but after a short run it was gone... Damn...

It definitely wasn't trout weather....

I was ready to pack it in when I realize Dave is on!  Holy shnikeys!

He got his trout!

Nice Dave!

Now to the hard part.  I had to run home to the first of a few meetings online.  I get a call from Dave he is still there and got a 5#!  Well, he packed the net away and was ready to leave, but the fish hit!  He wasn't in any shape to hand grab it, but got it to shore a few times before it spit the hook.

Now I have to come back....

After 2 meetings and some work, I ran down for a few hours in hopes to redeem myself.  90 minutes in and I get a trout bendo! I run down to the rod and as I grab the rod, it's gone...  Ugh

Next 30 minutes and time to wrap it up.  So this is what it feels like?  hahaha

Thanks for reading and time to make amends... The Law of Averages got the best of me today.

Forgot to mention when I filleted his trout, I felt something hard and weird pop out of the stomach.  WTF?!?!

I looked closer and they were pebbles like you would see at Home Depot or some mountain stream I would gather.  Definitely not rocks found in Santee Lakes.  For the life of me, I'm not sure why they were in it.  Hungry? Part of a filtration system in the truck?  I'll have to do some sleuthing....

I would have thought the rocks coincided with the mudding trout, regardless very strange.
