Had a limited amount of time to fish as I planned on working on my boat motor all day.  I'll get into the details later, but there wasn't many of them except for a bunch of Euro-Mankinis that came down for a swim that caused me to exit the beach early.

Short story was it was weedy, but fishable.  Got a 13" bass and lost a bunch of other bait stealers.  I got one real shark bite that I pretty much choked a gull on the hook swing which made me lose the shark.  I have pics of the bait which looked to be a leopard, but I could never get him back to commit to my bait.

Hammers are spotted on 4 beaches now from LJ to CB... Basically all over.  Hopefully you are in the right place at the right time.

If you get one, I'll try and get a sponsor to donate something as this would be a bucket list catch for sure!
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

What size roughly would the hammers be? Could the general set ups we use for soupfin and seven real in a hammer head?

The La Jolla one was supposedly 8- 10 feet.

8-10ft seems to be the general average estimate from all the yak anglers. Those guys are seeing them regularly and they're reporting that they linger around for a while once they show up. I think paddling out a bait might be the ticket.

Where's Eric with his winch? This is the year he's been preparing for!

The evening repeat was weed city. Fed the sea monsters a little something too.

That was no joke.  I would not have gone down if it was even half that weedy in the morning session.

Here you guys are trying to target them and I'm trying to lose em LOL. The blood coming thru the scuppers don't help. It's like smelling your neighbor ( or Tom ) grillin up some summer bbq. ;D

I can vouch for 8-10ft. Little guys compared to mama chewing up the tuna offshore. I'm sure they'd still give me a helluva sleigh ride.

Would love to see one of you put a hammer on the sand

This would be the year to do it.

One might need to use some Yellowfin or Skipjack for bait.
