Got to my AO around 4:30 PM. Tide has transitioned to low. Brought two combos with me.  Threw a mack head and a mack tail.  My offshore tuna casting rod with the mack tail kept getting hits. About an hour later, I checked it and the tail was pretty much just skin and bones.  Decided to try half a fillet of the center body of a mack and threw it out.  After a about 20 minutes, something finally inhaled the fillet and took off like a freight train.  Kept adjusting the drag as the monster just kept dumping line fast.  At almost full drag I finally slowed it down. Then the battle begun.  That offshore PE3-6 tuna casting rod was at uber bendo.  Friggin awesome rod, so easy on the body compared to my Daiwa Sealine.  As I was taking line back, I could feel the monster giving some burst of strong pulls.  Trying to take it easy as I was afraid my 50LB copolymer topshot might reach its breaking point. At the same time I kept keeping an eye on my other rod hooked to the mack head that's still soaking.  Last thing I wanted was for another surf monster to take the bait, and I'll be in trouble!  Finally I got the nice batray to the beach.  That batray was fat and heavy!  Unhooked and released it!   The sun was setting, decided to pack up and call it quits.  Stoked to finally get the stripe off my back.

Persistance pays off, WTG!!   As far as fishing two rods I quit doing that about a year and a half ago.......had a double hook up and ended up loosing both  :P

Nice one! didn't know the lakes up there had bats ! If we had surf like that down here we probably wouldn't have such a kelp/grass issue in the surf :/

Where the heck are you that the beach is so empty? No SD beach is that devoid of people during the day this time of year.

Hell yeah!  Congrats on the skunk buster!  It's been a while since I landed my big soupie off the beach, but the crowds have not let up down here.  This weekend looked like the fourth of july!

Well, congrats again!   8)
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Thanks bros!  I might give it another shot tomorrow after work.  Seems like the temperature has cooled down a bit.

Didn't get a chance to go during the weekday, got stuck at work.  But tomorrow we have big tide swings,  4.6 feet in the morning at around past 9:30 AM and the next at 5 feet at 9:43 PM at my AO.  Gotta give it a shot early in the morning.  In San Diego it's even bigger.  High tide of 6 feet at 8:49 AM and almost 7 feet at 8:49 PM.  Bring out your long rods, and casting rods fellas, you'll never know!

Planning on being out but the heat will be on and the crowds may be heavy.
