Hey guys, a few of you know me from another forum, but for those that dont i wanted to introduce myself. My name is Paddy or Patty both spellings are fine its a nickname. I grew up mainly bait fishing for trout  in local lakes and the sierras. I became interested in salt water fishing a year ago when my step-son saw some people fishing in Ventura Harbor and asked if we could fish there. Well on my second outing i landed a 30ish inch smooth hound on a trout stick with 4lb test. Since then ive been hooked.  I mostly fished the harbor for the last year with only a couple trips to the sand.  Ive recently been getting very interested in searching for the big and toothy critters that can be caught from the surf. Ive learned a lot from this forum just by reading y'alls posts. I especially appreciated the one about shark leaders/rigging that Eric h told me to read. I look forward to getting my name on that shark chart yall got going! If anyone is heading out in the VC area i would love to join you schedule permitting. I enjoy that this forum is particularly geared for getting the big fish from the surf, which is my main interest, while still being able to talk about other types of fishing. I Look forward to being more active here, and getting to know yall better and possibly hitting the sand with some of you.
Thanks for reading.

Right on Paddy (or Patty) welcome to the site. I've learned a lot from these members so don't be shy about asking questions. Great bunch of big game hunters here.

Good luck!  8)

That's what my wife thought when I said we were going fishing together LOL!

Nice to see your on here man. I gotta admit first chat with you I was really thrown off with the name. As was my gf lol. Hopefully late November I can make it up there for a sesh!

TheCraftsman

Haha, yeah im very comfortable with the name since i picked up the nickname over 20 years ago. People usually have one of two responses, look at me funny or make some sort of irish comment. But I did realize it was causing some confusion when its not face to face so i adopted the Paddy spelling on the forum to make it easier.

Look forward to you coming up Ramon!
Chad, let me know when we can get out, i do have kids this weekend so maybe we can work out a harbor trip.

Cool, I've fished the Sierras quite a bit as well.

Lookin  forward to meeting  up and putting some grinners  on the sand.

Hey Paddy!  Thanks for the introduction!

A bunch of those guys would get some serious sharks up there, but somehow quit fishing for them or just waiting until the fall.  I'll definitively get a hold of you if I ever get up that way to hunt for Sevens.  8)

Im confident I'll be on the shark chart soon:) Ive put a few trips in already with no success, but I think the warm water may have something to do with that.  Only fish ive put on the sand so far are SNFG on the lighter gear.  Still trying to learn the ropes and get lucky with some premium surf conditions. With my busy schedule, i usually just go whenever I can fit it in and dont often get to pick and choose my tide/time of the day.  All you SD boys should plan a carpool up here for a day once things heat up a bit. Maybe we could return the favor and head down ur way as well.  Whats up with having a get together? Would love to see 20-30 long rods taking over a beach for an evening.

The damn heat never left and the beaches are just as crowded as the summer.  The only thing keeping people off the beach is the night, so maybe when the time change happens?  It's been a frustrating surf fall so far to say the least, but it will happen this year for sure!

Cool man, looking forward to it. Will be a good excuse to get down to SD, maybe bring the ol lady for the weekend. I was reading about the SNBF, looks like an awesome event. Can't wait till the next one. We dont have to deal with quite the same kind of crowds up here. I mean our beaches get busy, but nothing like down there. Main problem here is that a lot of the good fishing spots seem to also be good surfing spots too, not a prob for night fishing but day fishing requires going to less desirable spots.

Surfers go home when it's the right time to fish.

We were out one night long after sunset and a surfer comes in out of the dark. Some are really hardcore.
