San Clemente State Beach skunk

Hello everyone,

The surf out at San Clemente State Beach was basically until fishable today. Tried two sessions but the tidal surge was too much. Reminded me of Carlsbad north of the Power Plant. Sharp slope with a strong surge that builds up back on the incoming wave and just  crashes down. The white wash would go about 40 to 60 feet before the break. This made for a lot of open unfit able space before your line was actually in the water. Tons of rocks, lost a couple rigs, and the kelp came in the afternoon. Chalk it up to getting more experience.  I really need to work on my casting with the 12 foot rods. Any suggestions for casting on a long rod?

The Boy Scout camping is going well though, which is the best.

I'm getting a little nervous that with this upcoming El Nino winter that things just might start to get worse!

Well, props for trying up there.  I was hoping to read about some big surf beasts, but I know how that goes.

I had hopes too from previous posts from various sites. But the surge and rocks was too much.

I just assume we're going to lose our winter fishing due to bad weather like in previous EL Ninos. Thank goodness for our bays!

The bays will be the life savers this winter.
