Freight-trained at MB

My eldest son, Michael, and I got a late start Saturday night. Baits in the water around 8pm. Using squid. Lots of single taps from bait molesters and got a couple serious hits,or even resulting in a lost bait.
Then around 10ish, the big pickup happens. Yelled for son, set the hook, and held on. Pass rod over to son who continued to hold on. Told my son to follow his fish only to have it lined up perfectly with the last bouy. Not good. Then, everything halted. My son was convinced he was wrapped around the bouy. Rod was passed back over to me to try to out smart the great unknown. Luckly, we were not wrapped up but we were next to the bouy and not moving an inch. Tried every trick I knew, including the good old freespool. No change.

Began to think that this was a nice Bat Ray that plopped itself comfortably on the mud. Couldn't pull any harder in fear to break the line. Decided to change my angle on it as if I was stuck on a rock. Well, that work very well. Out of nowhere, this kraken continued to freight train and 10 seconds later, pop goes the line on the bouy line. All before I could handle the rod back to my son. Total heartbreak!

The rest of the night was a quiet slide to nothing. Packed it up by midnight.

Early in the session,  had a nice size Leo splash around causing a ruckus. Identified it when I shone a spotlight into the water and saw the back end swim away.

That was the best I have had yet. Luckly, it did stop. A spooling was looking like a reality for some moments.

Yep,  explained that to him but the early teenager just gave me a look. LOL!
But he understands.

Ah, the obstacle course. Never fails to get you at least once or twice an outing there.

It is definitely good training, but I think next session will be at a place that is more open. BUT, this spot has produced the most consistent bites of bigger models than before. Hard to go explore when the potential 50"+ is out there. But there are a couple other places worth a look.
