Man, I was in pretty bad shape and should have stayed home to rest my wounds, but Steve called and said he was going fishing..  Damn it... I have a problem as I couldn't say no and met him on the sand.  Conditions were good, but there was more grass than normal in the surf.  Lots of bass bites, but I was only using big baits to thwart the smaller bass attempts.  I wanted a grinner bad.

Well, the big baits got a nice fish to stick.  I don't usually catch many turd rollers in the surf, but this one was a nice one!

A little bit later and I had a really sharky hit.  I had him on for ony a few seconds, but definitely shark.  It probably was a leopard as it didn't seem to have any mass, but it's hard to tell in that short of time.
Steve kept feeding the reef his sinkers, but had some good bites that he missed.

It was getting late and we were about to give up when ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I grabbed my rod and got a SOLID hookset in him and a tight drag.  Even then it was screaming out and I felt the tail slapping the line.  It was hauling ass and felt very soupfin like especially with the amount of weight behind it.

I felt pretty good about this one and maybe tha was the kiss of death as it surfaced, rolled, slapped my line and gone... pulled the hook.  Crap... We can't leave now!

A few casts later and my rod gets a nice hit, but never stuck.  In the meantime, Steve had half a huge mack on his line and it got ripped the hell up on some big hits, but nothing.

Oh well, at 1:00 am we called it the night and packed it in.
I'm always hoping to put myself into one opportunity for a big fish and tonight I did, but the fish won.  Hook was super sharp... line was good, drag was right, hookset was on time... just Dave Marcianno'd me.

Oh well, Happy East and we'll get them the next time.

Thanks for reading and until next tide!
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Going to wish Wilbur a happy Easter right now. Reef was hungry last night.

Bummer deal with the grinner. The Sandie is huuuuge. You guys will find the sweet spot, conditions pending, of course. In the mean time, recuperate.

You got your heart pumping at least ;) The bass is cool too. Steve's donation to the reef is hopefully a prepaid victory for next outing :)

Weird. Where I fished I didn't lose a single rig or get any kelp. The difference in a 100 yards. Only got 1 decent bite on the long rod
