We weren't sure what the plans were yesterday, but we packed for both beach and bay just in case.  Decided last minute to drive up to the Casino-ish and give it a go.
Beach goers everywhere, so we had to spend the time drinking until the sun went down... and the casino lights came on!  We only planned on soaking baits for a few hours, but an hour into the soak, Steve's rod gets hammered!  I would have bet money on a soupie from how tough a time he was giving Squatch, butI finally laid eyes on the beast and tailed this beautiful 7-gill for him!
8' of fat, scrappy and pissed off male 'Gill!

We couldn't be more stoked to get an 8 footer off the beach... until my rod went off!

Another fiery and spirited fight!  Definitely one of my better fighting Sevengills that I could remember.  Another 8 foot male!
I first thought it could be the same fish, but it definitely wasn't.  My guess is there was a bachelor pack swimming around following the scent of a 9 foot monster!

Steve snapped a pic to see where the hook was and we saw the stomach coming out so got him back asap!  Fiery fish for sure and swam off strong!

We fished it 30 minutes longer than normal to see if the momma was swimming around, but Squatch's timer went off and we packed it in.  Not too shabby of a night.  We were expecting Soup and rolled Lucky Sevens!

Those are big ones. Great shot of the business end. They have some serious teeth.

Knew I had a soupie. Was very surprised to see a seven on the beach.

Pretty sure I would have been better off without the last three margaritas.

Very nice! Steve's has quite a gut on it. Does this beach have a lot of water all the way to the sand? I have found that it seems the 7s fight really good if they have water to swim, once they get shallow they just start flailing and rolling in the surf. Awesome session guys!

Nice night for sure. Congrats on those bad boys.

I may be up that way on the skinny beach tomorrow and if chased off by the tide may seem if I can find the female.

So which was bigger? You mentioned 8 feet but who won the tape?

Steve beat me by less than a inch.  97" and 96" respectively. His had eaten a big meal before being caught.

Can't beat that for a session, especially the drinking part  ;)
