Here's a dragon scale I did last night. first one on a blank and it turned out well.

Size D blue thread for the diamonds and size D metallic Blue for the overwrap.  I'm not very good at this whole wrapping thing so I cant really give a step by step but my first wrap was spaced 1" apart, I wrapped the length I wanted then came back 180* the opposite of the first wrap, then I followed back the way I started about 1/4" apart from my first and just kept going until I had a bunch of diamonds.

Wow Chris!  That came out really sweet!  I can't wait to see the finished product!

Man, that just pushes me to start wrapping my own rods.  i know i should, but have not had time to do so.  Your Dragon scale wrap just looks killer!

Thanks Tom! That's a rainshadow RCJB84XH . 7ft, 40-80lb. I'm going to try to pull some big amberjack out of the water with it this winter.

Building is fun. It takes awhile to learn, even the basics and I'd recommend practice wrapping guides on a wooden dowel several time before you end up flustered using an expensive blank.

I had to push this build Back due to other projects and the mail system.

Working on the guides now but decided I wanted to add to the dragon scale.
