No pics ut the gadget arrived took a few hours to charge up, pair with the wifi, register the app, and read enough of the manual to know where to attach it. Got it tied to a 10 foot rod with a spinner and 40 lb line to cast it out.

Going to the river to a carp area to start testing it out. Their map doesn't show the OB pier so it will be odd trying to map that. Even the river area is just a thin blue line so the mapping is gonna be curious.

Going to make some test readings in still water to get the hang of it before hitting the surf.

Probably will do another IV run and will check out some canal action.

More to follow....

3.5 oz according to the book. That is why the 40 lb line. Not sure the weight limit on the rod though but have tossed it with 3 oz before.

RTFM a little better.  :-[

Didn't have it in the right mode to create a map. Pretty easy to toss this thing with a 10 foot rod. Easily made it 150 feet even with trees limiting a full swing.

Need to make more IV run bait tomorrow since I have the day "off" from the day job so I'll toss it again in the bait holes to see what shows up.

Second test in the river did have it in the right mode so mapped out the whole area where I could cast. So far the thing is a win.

Today the IV and some canal scans. When the surf dies down, the beach.

Here is a scan of an IV catfish hole. This is in a canal as it drifted over a location. It can be a pain to manage the drift and work the phone

Does it save the scan for later perusal as well or just a live feed?

Saves them. That is a pic of a review from last night. You can save and name them for the area or codewords. It can also do a map but I was using the standard mode since I know that area just not the depth.

I may hit Lake Murray and do some mapping.

Tried mapping in the AAC but had connectivity issues probably from all the concrete.

Very cool Jim!! I imagine that may work in the surf on a calm day.

Are those blips suspended fish? or what it is perceiving to be fish ? Do you think it would read if a fish isn't stationary and just cruising by?  Real interested in how it will read in the surf now.

spideyjg

If you look close in reality there is a blip and a fish icon superimposed on it. You can't turn off the fish icon near as I have found.

I may be hitting the surf tonight and will toss it. I don't have the clear night fishing cover for it yet so in the dark it vanishes. May tie a tiny glow stick to the line above it.

Latimeria

I wouldn't use that thing in the surf.  The last thing you need is a kelp monster grabbing it and swimming off down the beach with it!

It's too cool and I would only use it in the bay and FW to be safe.
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

spideyjg

I hear you Tom on the risk but odds are this floating object has a better chance than a sunken rig. Besides I'll eyeball for kelp monsters before throwing it out. Hell I see bad enough kelp monsters I'm moving anyhow.

Surf test are inconclusive. The beach is really shallow now and the thing needs a minimum of 3 feet. Couldn't get a scan to happen it always said too shallow. The wave action may be throwing it off too.

Needs another test at a deeper beach. I was out at low tide.
