Sea monsters!!! (10-17)

Scouted a new to me beach last night. Was on the sand at 9:30p, very late start. Not expecting much, just wanted to see this beach and how bad the surf was.

Water churned up big time! Strong downhill current. Piles of kelp on the beach, piles frolicking in the surf. I reeled them in on every cast.



My baits were picked on, but the kelp made it impossible.



Surfline said 3-5' with and occasional 6', they weren't kidding! It was still fishable as this beach didn't have a shorebreak, the sea monsters though!! Called it after the 8th cast. The chewed up baits kept me from leaving sooner.

Thanks for the report, Mike.  It was because of this report that we decided to stay in the bay and not deal with all of that chopped salad in the surf.  I wonder what was hitting your baits?  That's pretty good to get bit so fast before loading up with salad.

I did let my bait stay out for a good 5 minutes before reeling it in after seeing my first bait come back chewed up hoping I'd get a chance to set the hook before all the kelp build up.
