This was our target species, the big Blue Cats of San Vicente!

But back to the beginning...

It's my personal first time back to San V in almost 15 years.  I know it only closed down 9 years or so ago, but it's been longer than that for me.  When I got the call from Jim to go looking for big blue cats there, I could only say "Let's Go!"

I knew it was going to be more of a recon trip and Jim said to meet up at 10am which is not usually when I get out fishing, but the Cat Man had a plan.

First view of the new dam.

The ramp was just awesome looking!

Getting wet.

We hit every corner and cove of the lake.  We threw everything out there from bass gear, to crappie, to panfish....  everything including the kitchen sink.

We bounced from spot to spot with no luck.

Needless to say, we get back to the docks to see a kid with a big old catfish while we got the skunk.  The first picture was a quick text to Steve to try and get him to take the bait, but he didn't respond.  lol

In any case, thanks for taking me out fishing Jim and at least we have some good intel about the lake and the levels now.  It's amazing how many waterfalls are pouring into there at every corner!
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Going to have to up your game. In more ways than one.

Always a chance to learn. Biggest thing is using that Deeper Smart once anchored up to pin point holes. That big hole was surprising.

May need to bring a few gunney sacks of rocks for sacrificial anchors next time and stop on those deep crappie hits.

Nope.  I didn't want it to look too good.  Just enough to make you gag for a split second when the text came through.

Things are just slow right now with the cool temps.

Can't wait to see you guys get a big blue.
