My buddy Chris finally got off his wacky work schedule and hit me up.

you wanna fish? Hell yeah....

He wasn't able to get the baby sitter till 10am so we got a late start.

Launched out of Alamitos and shot straight over to the oil rig.

I kept things simple and just brought 3 phenix M1/Curado set ups and a bunch of hammers.

Tons of mackerel around and it was hard to keep them off our swimbaits.

Did stick this little calico

He upgraded his fish finder

This one has a ton of more features including a down scan pictured on the right side. a lot more detailed and you could see the big kelp stringers as well as other structure.

Pretty slow on bass around the rig so we headed to the wall.

Again, lots of macks around but chris did manage a couple small bass on the hammers.

Slow overall here, (its now mid day) so we headed to hunington harbor to work the docks.

I got one good hit, set the hook and pop. Clean break in the line telling me I most likely had a nick in my line. In recent days I was crawling plastics over the rocks in the fresh. My own fault for not checking/putting on new top shot.

Chris got a solid pound in a half spottie

Slow overall here so we headed to a spot that's usually wide open but this fish are usually on the smaller side.

We got there and sure enough it was wide open on sand bass and calicos

Constant hook ups and a bunch of doubles. All lil guys but it was pretty fun.

Was starting to get dark so we headed in.

Nothing of size this time but it was cool, felt good to be on the water.

He fishes the SWBA & SBS tournaments and asked if id like to fish em with him.

Pretty excited about it.

All I could think about while reading you post was all the mackerel you saw and how much I wanted to catch some for grinner and bat bait.
