Shared some sand with Josh. Macks and Josh bait was served up. Cooler night temp wise, but the surf was again 1-2' with an occasional 3'.

It started off slow for me with a sea monster that knotted up my rig. Awesome little thing, but a nuisance for sure!

The critters were getting the better of Josh, which was totally frustrating him! Reminded me of Tom from the other night. He just couldn't get one to stick. I followed the eel with another undesirable, a round ray. We were going through bait like it was going out of style!  In-between bites, we'd check out the mass of sand crabs that practically covered the sand at the water line. It was crazy the amount of sand crabs there were. Then we started seeing sand crabs all balled up together. A bunch of little ones balled up around a big one. These things were humping!! Lol!! A whole lot of mating going on. Then the grunion started to run. Not a great run, but some here and there. Crabs were sexing and now fish were sexing. Crazy! Good thing I'm not Josh's type. Lol!

I decided to change it up and pin on some grunion since the macks weren't getting it done. Back to back shovels on the double pinned grunion were the result.

#2 was a fun one. Had me thinking decent leo or 40"+ bat. I finished off the night with a heavily egg laden reef roach. She had quite the berry on her.

Fishing wise, it was not a spectacular night, but it's always a treat to see so much life. Catching fish was a bonus. I wish my kids could stay awake, they would've loved to see so many critters.

Trying my best to change that, grinners don't bite too well for me when the water is warm.

Awesome session!  I'd be in hog heaven to get a moray and a shovel in one night.

That's a great shot of the lobster eggs!  Super cool!

Well, I foresee the shovels and bats being more prevalent the next month, but we will find some bigger grinners between them soon!
You can't catch them from your computer chair.
