OK, NOT!  lol

Got a last minute invite to join Tommy and Ron to do a fishing and hooping trip up in the Seal/Long Beach area.  Sounded like a great plan to me and I headed up to meet them the next day.
Once again, traffic sucked driving up and I managed getting there a little late, but better late than never.

We loaded up and launched in hopes for some denizens of the deep to grace our dinner plates.

Deckhand Ron.

Capt Tommy at the helm.

Hoops ready to go at sunset.

There are no Rigs down in SD, so fishing the rigs seemed like a Louisiana thing, but it was different and fun.  Too bad I wasn't totally prepared.  I only set up for bass fishing, not dropping 250 feet with bass gear! lol
Ron struck first with a TOAD Copper.

There was good steady action with plenty of smaller Widowmakers around.

Hot baits were squid and shrimp.

Lots of miscellaneous in-between...

Got our fill of rockfish and headed back to drop the hoop nets and do a little break wall fishing.

We dropped the nets and started pounding the break wall for lots of small bass and assorted critters.  It definitely was some fun fishing.

It was a great night for China Croaker.

Treefish on the wall.

Tommy trying to hide his -1 Lizard fish in the motor well.  :o

Bass coughed up this nasty polychaete worm!

Lots of big rattlesnakes.

I got 3 China rockfish tonight on the lead head and Ron got 1 or 2.

We pulled set after set after set without a hint of life.  We tried some different sections of the wall for nada and it wasn't until we moved out to deeper water that we started to find the miscellaneous stuff, but not a single lobster in the nets.... Just crabs, starfish and urchin.

We packed it in around 9 and headed back to the barn.

Tommy, thanks for the invite!  Fishing new areas is always a welcomed change of pace for me.  We'll get the lobster next time!

Ron, great fishing with you!  You guys are some top notch peeps.

Until next tide!
