Big surf is keeping me off the sand, but I need to scratch the itch. Hit the jetty with the light rod and some shrimp. Plenty action to keep me busy. Double digits for kelp fish, calicos, rock wrasse, and opaleyes. Got a few rock wrasse almost 12", didn't know they got that big. Kept a big opaleye and some of the bigger rock wrasse to try. Never tried either, always released. They were pretty tasty! Will keep more in the future.

It was pretty fun. The bigger rock wrasses were surprisingly tough to bring in on 6lb. They find the kelp and rocks. I did hit the OB pier first, but the high surf and outgoing tide really "muddied up" the water. It was pretty brown. I did manage 2 macks before going to the jetty, so not a total loss.

Nice, way to scratch that itch! Let me know when the kelp on the beach eases up, so I drive down and hit the sand.

I might need to do a quick rock hopping trip to get me a new species here soon.

Nice Mike!
You can't catch them from your computer chair.
