Well after bribing my step daughter to pick up her sister from school so I could get out fishing, I searched 4 beaches for conditions.  1 was horrible and loaded with salad.  One was too busy and couldn't really gauge the waters, one looked good as a back up spot and the last spot looked perfect for fishing this quick riser.

Minimal to no salad.  Small surf... fishy conditions.

I hook up first and knew right away it wasn't what I came down here for, but it is a +1 and a long time since I caught a bat on the beach.

Steve was hooked up the same time, so we double hooked up as he reeled his bass in.

There was not a lot of bait stealers around, but there was enough missed bites that sucked the meat off the skin.  I see Squatch's rod go bendo and this one looked like the right kind!  It was an ornery 68" Sevengill!  Big fat head and body, but not super long.  Another one for the 2017 list!  This one bit bonito just about at the top of the tide.

The tide starts to head out when my rod does a big jump and screaming run.  I thought for sure after fighting it that it was a scrappy soupfin.  It splashed the surface and ran the entire time without running straight at me which didn't make me think Leopard... but I was wrong.  It was a big Leo and a welcomed grinner to the party.

10 minutes later after getting a new bait out and I hear Steve yell for me.  I look around and see something swiping at his feet!  No friggand way!  He hooked and caught a little 61" Sevengill and slid it up all stealthy like a Sasquatch!  Well damn!  That's two for Steve!

Well, that was it.  The tide started sucking the water out and the only thing left biting was lobsters so we called it quits.

It looks like the Grinner Gathering beach should be primed up and ready for us on Saturday!

I'm never giving first place up even if it means fishing 5 nights a week!

You had to struggle to get out last night. No way are you going to make 5 nights happen right now.

I'm rooting for the underdog. I bet Steve or Mike is going to take over Tom's count in the near future.  ;)
