Lines in at 4:15. JayRay, BatRayDre and myself all had a variety of big baits out for nothing. Tried Squish, Macs, BatRay, and YellowTail. Had a bunch of baits come back missing/chewed, but judging by the action on the critter rods, just bait stealers.

Met a couple of locals that fish there a lot, they were really cool, and hooked up with TerraFirmaTackle and some of his crew. Spencer is a cool guy and we exchanged quite a bit of intel. Seems like a large number of grinners have migrated, but there's also word of guys still hooking up to some nice grinners and rays. You just have to remember that it's wintertime fishing and put your time in on the water.

From what Spencer told me combined with what I already knew, it sure looks like the shark population is larger than what we think, especially in The OC. Going forward it will be interesting to see what happens between now and spring especially in a non El Nino year.

Insert pics of keychain leos, a 2' leo for JayRay and the usual sundown.

Excellent intel Chip.  I'm glad your still putting in the time and waiting to see if you could pull an IRS agent out that could knock off Pinoyfisher for the prize!
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

I got a text from the "Dre", he said fishing was poor but the company was good    ;)

Nice to link up with you Chip.

After you left we had a solid connection on the dropped baits. Good 10 minute tug of war with what felt like a 7+ class fish before pulling the hook in the wash, heart break but it is what it is, still havent found a hook that really sticks these fish reliably, so thats par for the course.

Dropped another bait out the next night for nada, but they are like that.

Will be back at it tomorrow night if the surf conditions permit, as long as I can get one bait dropped out Ill be happy!

Havent tried any mustads that small, although we did wind up beaching one on the 18/0 Mustad.

So far out favorite hook has been the Owner 16/0 Super Mutus, seem stickier than other hooks for these fish, but theyre terribly expensive and tend to break off points/dull points relatively quickly with repeated use.

We're currently using a heavily offset Owner copy out of china that on paper seems perfect, except that we keep pulling hooks with it as well, not sure how much that is the hooks fault or if something else is at play here....I really do wonder how often we are just "flossing" these fish, catching the hook eye behind the dental work like that fish Matt landed earlier this year....

I might be there thursday as well, depends on the session tomorrow really and other irons in the fire....
