Hit the sand at 9am Saturday. Got the long lines yakked out and tossed in the surf rods. Conditions were looking good, surf was cooperating, no salad, tide going out. Game plan was to set up a good chum slick while we waited for happy hour before the low at 3pm. The critters kept us busy on the surf rods while we soaked up some vitamin D and waited for something with some real teeth to pay us a visit. Then around 1:15pm the red stuff showed up and it was pretty much party over. Even with 8oz weights, it wasn't more than a couple of minutes before our lines were sideways with the surf rods. We tried a couple more casts, but it was no use. Then the long line reels started screaming, but not with fish. Not really sure what was going on, but all of us got snagged hauling in the long lines, which is very unusual for this spot. After cranking down the reels and trying to walk the line backwards to break them free, you really have to wonder what kind of force a fish has to have to bust off 100lb braid with a top shot of 100lb big game mono.

So that was it, we loaded up and headed home for some cold ones and naps by 2pm.

Sorry to hear about the salad issues. We've had that problem down here as well. Strange that the yakked out lines are having issues with salad too. Arn't your lines high enough off the sand to avoid that problem?

Steve and I was supposed to hit the surf with an out-of-towner, but he no showed on us so we just decided to pass on the evening.

Glad you got out to try.
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

With lines out 150 to 200 yards there's more to catch salad, but usually the heavier weights hold them in place. But they're not immune, and then when you do have to reel them in, you get the joy of reeling in all that salad >:(

Went out last night, salad wasn't the issue for me. Strong surge and rough waves kept tangling my 3way rig. Called it after an hour. Sucks we're experiencing some pretty sharky tides, but the conditions won't cooperate.

Went out with TFT man two weeks ago on Thursday and managed to skunked after scaping out two toothy critters, which we suspect were the last in the bunch. Had the same issue. Unless it was a far drop with laser tightness, salad took no prisoners.

It all depends on the salad. When the stringers are big enough, and with 200 yards of line in the water, even the yakked lines can get taken out.
