Man, it was a long day out on Jennings yesterday.  Well over 12 hours of fishing.

Target one.... one of the huge dock bass under the docks.  I bought shiners to make it easier, but it wasn't so easy.  I had packs of 4-10 pound bass just slowly swimming behind my shiner but wouldn't take it.  I scaled down my hook and line to trout gear and used a #8 trout hook to pin on the shiner.  Well, that did it because a huge bass sucked down my shiner and I did everything I could to keep it out from under the docks!  It wound up straightening that little hook, but not a worry, because it was just awesome to see and fight.

I get the call from Steve that he is here and to pick him up at the ramp.  I get to the ramp and toss out another shiner.  Only to watch 5 bass following it around.  Steve just gets on the dock when my rod starts doubling over!  Hooked up!  I finally get it out from under the dock and go down to lip it right in front of Steve, but the hook straightened out on this one also and my old body couldn't move quick enough to finish the deal and off he went.  Steve got to watch him swim back under the dock.  A solid 4-1/2 pounder!  Not a bad start to the day!

Steve and I fish a handful of spots for nothing and moved to our go-to spot.  While we were waiting for cats to bite, we tried at all of the bluegill popping up around us.  Man, this is harder to get Bluegill in Jennings than corvina in Mission Bay!  We did get some though as Catfish bait.

Night came and we tried our butts off for cats.  Long story short, I got the only bite and only cat of the night.  3 target fish for the day and Squatch ended up with one Bluegill.

21" and only 2.36 pounds.  Not much of a cat at all, but it starts the Catfish Contest!

While out there, I saw that Terrafirma had a great day on the water!  Soon as I'm done cleaning the boat and taking a nap, I'll read up on his report again.  Pretty sick!

You mean to say that the first cat definitely won't be the top cat of the contest.  I on the the hand, plan to just catch bigger from here on out.   ;D

They don't bet that big by being stupid, good call on scaling down the hook and line size   ;)

If i was using a better hook than a Walmart one, I would have had better success.  lol
