Hey guys, Vegas local, Fished ocean beach pier last weekend for 8 hours till about 2 am with no luck. Looking to catch some sharks and rays, but preferably sharks. I will be back in town on Tuesday July 31st, through the weekend, anyone have any tips on shore area to hopefully get on some sharks? I have a convention rod with 600 yards of 65lb braid and a spinning reel Penn Fierce 2 with 500 yards of 50lb braid. Both reels are on two "big water" 7 foot rods. I know the rods arent the right length. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Last time i had squid on the spinning reel and live mackeral on the conventional. Thanks. Feel free to private email me as well.

Also, i'm staying at the travelodge right there on Rosecrans between mission and San Diego bay.   My 22nd birthday is on August 1st, id be down to fish with other people if anybody would prefer to show me a spot.  ;D

Your rigs are fine. Lots of leopard sharks, shovel-nosed guitar fish in this warm water right now. Butterfly and bat rays around as well. Stay off the pier and fish from shore. All the fish I mentioned are in shallow and can easily be targeted with a relatively short cast. Plus, releasing them is a breeze after a few pictures.

OB is a great area for leopard sharks, but it gets really crowded. As a matter of fact, every where is really crowded right now being it's summer and all. You can pretty much catch all the species I mentioned from any beach, patience is key.

Welcome to the forum!
I'll second what Mike said. Your gear is fine for everything you're likely to find in the summer as long as the surf is not too big.
You might try the bay also for big rays.

Welcome to the site.  The best beaches where you can get away from some of the crowds are Torrey Pines (I would go to the north side) since it has the least amount of people and pressure.  It gets reefy up at the northern end at southern Delmar which is particularly good, just a longer hike.
Ponto beach is also pretty vast to find some good fishing room if you don't mind travelling to North County.

It's just tough to find open beach to fish during the day, but you sound like you're rigged and ready.
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Do reach out when you're in the OC, were on the water nearly every day and will be able to find you something to pull on!
