Went to Poway for the new moon fishing.  Only open until 10:00pm on these non-summer nights.  We hit our usual spot, but tried hard for bass and Red Ear, with no luck.  We decided to cruise the lake and see what we could see.  We metered some potential areas, but the wind was howling over the water and needed a quieter place to fish.  Steve made the call for spot two and it was on.

My first cast was pretty much a splash bite.  Hooked up right away.

Steve and I both had fish within the first few minutes of getting bait out.

The only issue was we were casting by fallen trees and it was 50-50 if you were going to get him out of the brush when they bit!

I was trying to keep the boat clean, but one of the cats sh!t all over my boat!

It was a steady action for the next few hours as we got our limits and lost probably as many.  Good thing for the cats is it was a C&R type of evening for me.

They were all cookie cutters, but probably all 3-4 pounds.  Good grade of cat.

Steve's yellow bullhead.

Well, that was it.  I continued to throw the bass lures, but never got sniffed.  All in all a very successful night and glad the summer corwds have thinned out.

I just heard they are dropping Jennings down 25' next month for Dam repairs.  That is going to make things interesting when they also start stocking trout next month.

Thanks for reading!

You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Glad you have a lake to hit when the 'big pond' is so rough, nice kitties......................

Steve made the call for the backup spot because Tom was needing somewhere to place the blame if fishing sucked. That's OK, I can take it. Luckily, I didn't have to.

50-50 is generous for the odds of getting one in. High rate of attrition.

Fun night, and nice to have a place to go if the first choice isn't producing.

Sweet! In lakes you have to cast into nasty stuff to up your odds. Channel cats love cover. Bass will be near it, channel cats will be in it.

Blues may be following shad schools.

I bring lots of terminal tackle.
