Bait trouble

Hi all,

Unfortunately because of work and school I have precious little time to fish anymore and find myself struggling to find bait for surf fishing trips. In the past I could spare a day or two to head out on a bait making trip to the pier but with so little time I'd rather just fish the surf whenever the opportunity presents itself. With that said, I'm wondering if anyone knows where I could find frozen macks in the Ventura area that haven't been sitting in the freezer at big 5 for a decade haha. I know there's a great place down in MDR that keeps 'fresh' frozen stocked but they're usually sold out as soon as they come in. Any input is appreciated!

I've gotten frozen Mack's at Hyuns shop before in Ventura.

When I do buy macks it's from the d!ck's Sporting Goods at the Collection in Ventura or at the d!ck's at the Thousand Oak's mall. They tend to be pretty big, 14" or so. They'll get bit, but fresh is obviously better. I haven't been to the above-mentioned shop so that might be better than d!ck's.

Might also be worth calling up Angler's Den in Camarillo to see if he has any.

Personally I'm settling for just using squid for bait if I haven't caught any bait myself lately.

I usually buy my macs at one of the Korean markets in the valley. Worth the trip, and can even last a few if you take care of them.
