Finally got the Curmudgeon an Appointment...

I tried everything the last 2 weeks to get the motor to run right. Finally, I got it from stalling in the driveway which is a big win.  With that said, it also doesn't sound too good and it's really not right.

The other local Mercury dealer/service shop out here is very reputable, but difficult getting an appointment unless you want to wait a month or more.  I have the next available appointment with them on February 4th, so by the time I am healed, the Curmudgeon should be ready to spread fear through all the finfish of the sea!  LOL

Well, 2 days out from Surgery so my next few posts will be in an opioid haze which might be fun to read.  hahaha

Happy Holidays everyone!

Update!   She's back at home and Purring like a kitten!

Last week it was dropped off and today was picked up. Everything was addressed and fixed and cost me less than the other shop charged. Two big thumbs up for Sunset Marine! Now I just have to heal up before I could get her out!

New hatch to access the bilge area.  Apparently these skiffs had everything added on both halves of the boat before the top half and hull were fused together, thus getting access to areas impossible without cutting your own ports for access.  I thought they were just going to put in a round access hatch, but this is 100x better!

Now I just have to heal up so I can get to use her!

So what was the root problem?

It basically was the other shops fault when they wired my trolling motor system up.  Apparently (from what this technician said) is they kind of went with the easiest way to attach the power and ground lines over the right way.  Cables started corroding and the there was intermittent slight power losses.  Not total power loss, but would drop to 6 volts and these Mercs need at least 8+ to run properly because of the onboard computer and just being a highly electronic motor.  He went in and replaced all of the wires and properly sealed them so they won't corrode or loosen up.

The trolling motor plug, I did before I went in for surgery.  He told me it was working perfectly, but when It didn't work when I got home, I took a phone pic since I couldn't see it and it was all corroded completely off.  How can it be working properly and tested, when the wires weren't even connected?

Third one was my bilge pump wasn't working.  He said it was working fine and didn't know why it wasn't pumping water.  The new shop said that wasn't even my bilge pump and just a livewell pump which the tech should have known.  In order to get to the bilge pump since it was in a terrible area, they installed a new hatch and put in a top of the line automatic RULE pump instead of the dead one which was a cheap unit.

At least she's ready to go now!  How's your boat, Jim?  I haven't seen any updates in a while.

Too much other life events going on to spend much time. Laid the front deck in and it didn't fit. Had to totally disassemble the console, propane torch to release frozen screws, took the deck out Sunday and sanded it to fit.

Need to reseal and repaint the sanded areas.
